Just Ten Questions with Jess Taylor

We feel it’s important for you to know at least a little bit about the people you’ll deal with here at Thornton Jones so today we interrogate Jess Taylor, one of our Conveyancing Solicitors with just ten questions.

Question 1: How long have you been a Conveyancing Solicitor?

I qualified as a solicitor in May 2020 whilst working at Levi Solicitors, however I have worked in Conveyancing for over 6 years both as a Trainee Solicitor and Legal Assistant, gaining vital experience and on-the-job training whilst working at GM Wilson Solicitors.

Question 2: Where did you study?

After leaving high school I attended Pontefract New College to study my A Levels and then went onto The University of Huddersfield where I completed my degree and Legal Practice Course.

Question 3: What do you love the most about being a Conveyancing Solicitor?

The day I love the most is the day of completion where clients can finally get the keys to their new home! It’s great to hear the excitement in their voices when they hear the good news of completion and also the relief that the whole conveyancing journey is over (and perhaps a little nervousness at the anticipation of moving all their belongings in).

Question 4: ….and what do you dislike the most?

Constantly checking my emails – including most evenings and weekends to stay on top of everything especially amidst the SDLT deadline chaos! It’s great however that we have such integrated systems here at Thornton Jones which removes many of the archaic and clunky processes of old which certainly makes the process smoother and more efficient.

Question 5: If you could improve one thing about the Conveyancing process what would it be?

At the moment, the return time of search results. Due to the recent large influx in conveyancing matters and therefore the volume of requests to local authorities for searches, the delays in getting search results back is having a knock on effect and causing a delays that are frustratingly out of our control.

Question 6: If you weren’t a Conveyancing Solicitor what career would you choose?

I have always wanted to be a solicitor since being at school so if I wasn’t a Conveyancing Solicitor I’d most likely be a Solicitor in a different area of Law.

Question 7: Who are your idols/inspiration?

Elle Woods is my inspiration. The lead character in the 2001 book and movie, Legally Blonde. Elle’s determination to succeed in Law despite the naysayers is what sparked my initial interest in studying hard and becoming a solicitor.

Question 8: What’s your claim to fame?

I went to see the Spice Girls at Wembley and I am shown getting my groove on in the video of the concert.

Question 9: Tell us something about yourself that very few people know?

I got 100% marks in all of my final A level exams!

Question 10: What’s your favourite tipple and who do you enjoy a tipple with?

As much as I love going out with my friends for dancing and cocktails my most favourite tipple is Aperol-Spritz enjoyed with my mum.
