Have Your Lives Taken You In Different Directions Like Kim and Kanye?
No amount of riches can shield you from life and the challenges that it throws at you and during a global pandemic, as couples, we are forced to spend more time in close quarters together which may be a world away from what you are used to.
News hit the media last week of a pending split and divorce of one of the world’s most high profile couples, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The media of late has highlighted the fragility of this famous marriage with Kayne seeking to run for President, Twitter announcements of his discontent with the reality show aspects of Kim’s ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ lifestyle and reportedly saddening notes of abortion, rage and isolation. As Tupac once said, there’s “Nothing but pain, stuck in this game, searching for fortune and fame”.
“With a combined net worth of some $2.1 billion
we expect there to be some intense negotiations”
But with considerable assets comes a considerable legal battle (and a legal bill to match) as Kim is reportedly already in lengthy discussions with her lawyers. With a combined net worth of some $2.1 billion (according to a recent Forbes article) we expect there to be some intense negotiations to find a settlement.
Quite likely, the settlement will in most be quite simple as both will no doubt have prenuptial agreements in place, however, there does appear to be some joint assets, not limited to a $30,000 bathroom sink!
It begs the question whether partners who enter a marriage or civil partnership with assets should as a rule have a prenup agreement. Given 1/3 of marriages end in divorce1 a prenuptial agreement could in part avoid what can often be a tumultuous time for everyone involved when seeking a settlement.
“Here in sunny West Yorkshire we have
our very own Hot-Shot Lawyers”
Of course Kim and Kanye can afford the very best Hot-Shot LA Lawyers that money can buy, but here in sunny West Yorkshire we have our very own Hot-Shot Lawyers with over 100 years of combined experience in family law, just without the LA price tag.
We have lawyers to match every situation. If you feel you can work through the divorce amicably then mediation or collaborative law might well be the right solution for you. If however there is tension and it’s unlikely that constructive discussions can take place then we can guide you through the court process and allow a judge to decide on the outcome. Either way and all ways in between, you’ll always find a family lawyer to suit your needs here at Thornton Jones.
Taking your spouse through the courts isn’t always necessary and although the alternatives won’t make Fox News, it can certainly save time, money and a lot of stress. Services like Collaborative Law and Mediation really help keep the debate amicable and gives each person a voice and an opportunity to listen and agree on the outcome rather than letting a Judge decide for you which invariably leaves one party feeling hard done to.
If you are separating and looking at divorcing then call us to discuss how we can help. We offer a free initial consultation where we’ll learn more about your situation and talk about the various options available to you.
If you are looking at getting married or forming a civil partnership then speak to us about making a prenuptial agreement. If you are already married and feel you should define whose assets belong to whom then speak to us about a postnuptial.
In the meantime we can all watch and wait to see how Kim and Kanye get on with the sad ending of their marriage and let’s hope it is not as public as their lives have been so far.
