Legal guidance at your side
Collaborative family law enables you to sit around a table with your ex, with your lawyers at your side throughout, to discuss the issues and reach a legally binding agreement.
You each instruct separate, trained collaborative family lawyers and everyone has to commit to resolving issues without going to court at the beginning of the process. In a series of ‘four-way’ face to face meetings, you set the agenda and you make the key decisions, at your own pace and with advice from your lawyers, rather than having outcomes and timescales dictated to you by a judge. This enables you to focus on what matters most to you and your family.
Your lawyers can also bring specialist financial advisers, counsellors and coaches into the process to provide guidance on financial issues and emotional wellbeing.
Provided that everyone enters into the process in good faith, collaborative family law is faster, cheaper and less acrimonious than traditional court proceedings. It also helps maintain channels of communication between you and your ex, which is particularly important if there are children involved.
